Savoury snacks and health

Do crisps and savoury snacks make you fat? Should I let my kids eat them? What about salt? These are just some of the questions which are voiced by consumers and reported widely by the media concerning the so-called “obesity” debate.

Statistics show that obesity levels have grown in the UK just as they have in other countries. The general consensus is that this is a result of a number of factors including what we eat and lack of exercise. In effect our lives have changed and we do not expend as much energy as in the past (just think of all the labour saving devices we have and how often we travel by car). Also we spend more time in front of the television or at computers.

When we talked to groups of mums about savoury snacks like Pom-Bear, they were quite clear that snacks were a treat and that they controlled the amount of snacks their children were allowed to eat, which seems a sensible approach.

So what should you do?

Aim to exercise regularly and ensure you eat a well balanced diet. This can include treats such as chocolate and savoury snacks but in moderation.
